Voice Input
Use Sorted's voice features to create invoices by speaking, and dictate into individual fields with "Say it".
Voice Input
Sorted uses voice throughout the app so you can create documents and fill in fields without typing. There are two voice features:
- Voice-to-document — tap the mic to describe an entire job and Sorted creates the document
- "Say it" per-field — tap the mic button on an individual field to dictate just that value
Voice-to-document
When creating a new invoice, estimate, or adding a phase/extra, you start with a voice recording screen:
- Tap + on the Invoices, Estimates, or Instructions tab
- Tap the microphone icon
- Speak naturally — describe the job as you would to a colleague
- Sorted transcribes your voice (using Whisper AI)
- The transcription appears in an editable text box — you can review and correct it
- Tap Process Invoice (or Process Estimate) to parse the text into structured fields
What to say

Sorted extracts: client name, address, work description, and price from your speech. You can always edit the result.
Tips for best results
- Speak clearly at a normal pace
- State the price last — e.g. "…boiler repair, two hundred and fifty pounds"
- Include key details — client name, address, description, amount
- Review the transcription before processing — you can edit the text
"Say it" — per-field voice input
When editing an invoice, estimate, or instruction notice, a "Say it" mic button appears in the keyboard toolbar whenever one of these fields is focused:
- Client name
- Address
- Phone
- Work description
- Price / Amount
- Extra amounts
- Phase amounts
How it works
- Tap a field (e.g. Price)
- The "Say it" button (mic icon) appears above the keyboard
- Tap the button — recording starts immediately
- Speak the value
- Sorted transcribes and writes the result directly into the field
Smart parsing
Sorted processes voice input differently depending on the field:
Email fields
Spoken words are converted to email format:

Currency words are stripped and the number is extracted:

VAT intent on price fields
When using "Say it" on a Price, Amount, or Phase amount field, you can include VAT instructions:

| "Two thousand plus VAT" | Price is set to £2,000 (net), VAT is turned on (Total = £2,400) |

| "Two thousand" | Price is set to £2,000, VAT toggle is unchanged |
This works on invoice price, estimate price, instruction phase amounts, and extra amounts.
